You may not have heard of Josep Borrell, European Union’s Chief Diplomat, and even less of his recent comments about how Europe is a garden that needs to be protected from the Jungle out there! Yep a unanimously agreed upon, racist, neo-colonialist view of the world out there (and this is even said by some Members of the European Parliament - MEPs). I was just wondering, though, if he included the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in this ‘European garden’ or in the ‘Rest of the World Jungle’?
The above point not withstanding, I felt furious the other day, after reading about such comments and then coming across the article below, about the investigation into the drowning of 27-31 migrants in the North Sea waters between France and UK last November 2021. I was sick and wanted to throw up. In my November 30, 2021 post titled ‘Tragic tale of 2 cities’ I wrote how 27 migrants died as the consequences of France and UK behaving as heads of two bullying mafia families.
As the article says, and I quote «when repeated calls were made by the passengers to French and UK emergency services, the French told them they were in British waters while the British told them they were in French waters».
So this is how creatures in the ‘Garden’ behave? With a lack of empathy for human life? Especially people who have as one of their main missions saving lives!!! When such people behave as such, that means the attitude to belittle human life, especially that of a foreign stranger, has become systemic to the administration of the country in question. It is no longer a question of a few bad apples, but an entire governmental and policy attitude that has defaulted out of humanity.
In most countries, and I know for a fact in France, ‘Non assistance to a person in danger’ is a criminal act punishable by law, so these people, French and English, sit around, hear the pleas of these people in a sinking dinghy, and all they can say is that it is not them, but the other one? Oh My God!!!
So Prime Minister Sunak, before you lecture China on human rights, and President Macron before lecturing Russia or Myanmar or Cuba on the treatment of opposition, please fix your ‘software’. The one you have installed has a few deadly bugs, which makes the garden more dangerous than the jungle.
