[Given the turn of events in the European Union’s parliamentary elections, I need to express myself. However, I do not want to do so with a hot temper so shortly after the outcome. Maybe next week or the week after. Meanwhile a little bit of laughter with the ever amusing British Royal family remnants.]
The other day I read a headline announcing that Prince Harry has confirmed that he is now a US resident. In other words, after leaving royal duties and moving over to his wife’s (Meghan Markle) territory, he has now informed Britain that he is ‘usually resident’ in the United States.
Now I am not sure if I understand the term ‘usually resident’. Is it like Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle in quantum mechanics which states that an entity’s (a particle, let’s say) position and momentum cannot be both known with precision? The more detail you observe with one parameter, the less precision you get with the other one.
I am sure by now you are wondering if I plan to teach a physics lesson, and trying to understand the link between Harry and quantum mechanics. Rest assured, I am not going to give you a physics lesson, but I will try to clear up the comparison between Harry’s situation and physics’ Heisenberg uncertainty principle.
You see, over the past 3 years or so, we have learned about everything in Harry’s life: his anger with his royal family, his lifestyle, his wife and his children, his business ventures, his ‘jobs’, and so on. All with a decent level of precision. If we compare him to a particle and apply the above-mentioned quantum mechanics principle, we can conclude that all the items above, constitute his ‘momentum’, aka his life. So we assume Harry is a quantum particle, and we have detailed knowledge of his ‘momentum,’ then we must be fuzzy about his position, aka his location and place of residence.
I guess that’s why the people who filed on Harry’s behalf said that Harry is ‘usually’ resident in the US. We cannot declare that with certainty, just with ‘usually’. But I am really happy for him: after being estranged from his royal family, he managed to stay in the limelight, get a couple of jobs (read my earlier posts on the topic dating back to Spring 2021), start a few businesses, write a book, and now have a ‘usual’ residence. That’s great, the poor man is no longer homeless, and that will do a lot of good to his young family
