Omid-X to Agamem-X (his father) and Esperan-M (his mother)
Lifegivers, I have to beg you both for forgiveness, for I have sinned and revealed my origins to Henry, my first observation/test subject. I made the unforgivable error of consuming those truth revealing substances (here they call them alcohol and cannabis), and told him about myself, that I am an extra-terrestrial alien, along with my objectives and family members. I even told him about the name of our planet, but I managed to keep its location confidential. Much worse than revealing the secrets, however, is that I told Henry about our planet’s history to the dramatic turn of events, and the outcomes we have read so much about. Yes, I told him about our planet’s great implosion of decades ago. Even worse, since I worked on the Great Implosion Research Team, I gave Henry a complete summary of our findings.
I told him that about 120 years ago (Earth years) ou planet’s systems, be it the developed or the developing world, the rich or the poor, the democratic or the autocratic, all collapsed. What makes this implosion tragic is that our leaders, be it political or civil society, could see it coming and were witnessing the evidence first hand, yet they did nothing.
I also told him how our societies had become victims to a cult of rationality and expertise and capricious leadership. Political leaders whose focus was not how their policies work, but how they can get re-elected. Civil society leaders whose cult of productivity and extreme mechanization led us down the path of despotism.
I told him that the dictatorship of reason was supposed to create a Utopian society where science will rule and balance the force, but in reality we lost it all, for as Isaac Asimov has said on this planet, «our science gathered knowledge faster than our society gathered wisdom», and sadly enough we used it wrongly, for we were lacking the wisdom.
Socially, our people became alienated from their environment, society and their leaders. Economically, we engaged in capitalism without oversight and the promotion of greed without bounds. And politically, we lost hope on our leadership election process, as people switched to vote against people and projects, not for what they wanted.
I also told him, how our creative shows and films were replaced by something like these reality shows I see on Earth. Poetry disappeared, spirituality was replaced either by fanaticism or materialism, and our societies became vessels without souls. And one day we discovered that a society without spirituality, poetry or soul will lead to self-destruction. In this context, we realized that as difficult and painful the great implosion was, it ended the self-destruction process, and helped erect the foundations of our wise society and planet.
My Lifegivers, these are all the things I told Henry about our planet. I did not give him the location of it, nor its level of advancement. I did tell him, however, that in spite of significant progress since the great implosion, we still suffer from a resistance to truth that hurts, and thus we still live with partial censorship and societal denials.
