Omid-X to Agamem-X (his father)
[side comment from Henry Dimplefink: This email is presented in 2 parts, as it is a long one. Pt2 will be published next week]
My lifegiver, I have neglected sending reports recently, but I have been busy, and I believe I have found my first evaluation and cooperation subject on this intriguing planet, called Earth. His name is Henry Dimplefink, and he lives in a city called Paris, in a country called France (which I shall visit later). I met him by chance yesterday in this city called Dallas, in this country called the United States of America, the same country that holds Reno, Nevada, and the other places I have sent my emails from.
Henry is generally a happy guy, even though he told me he occasionally has fits of anxiety and obsessiveness. He is actually American (it is the same country as the United States of America, or the USA or just US), but he has been living in Paris for many years. He has a lovely wife and 2 wonderful children who are moving through the early stages of their lives. For a number of years, however, Henry has been a bit sad, because he really likes Dido (she is apparently a well-known music star on Earth), and he has been dreaming of seeing her in concert, to no avail.
Henry is a second generation immigrant to the US, his father accompanying his own parents from Austria when he was 7 years old. He told me a funny story about his last name (Dimplefink), which is an unusual, not to say unique, name. His grand father’s original name was Dunkelbraun, which in German means Dark-Brown, and he did not like it. In fact, neither his grandfather nor his father ever told Henry the origins of the last name.
Anyways, when they were being processed at Ellis Island in 1933, Henry’s grandfather told the officer that he wanted to change his name to Dunkelfee, which means Dark-Fairy in German, and for some reason the officer wrote down Dimplefink, and everyone being exhausted with the ocean journey and sad about leaving their lives in Austria, missed it. By the time they found out it was too late, so they kept the last name, which became a distinctive sign for the family. Thus the new Dimplefinks are the prime examples of transforming a problem into an opportunity, or a mistake into a strength.
