- Omid-X to Hopesoo-Z (his companion on planet X) -
My most beautiful and loving Hopesoo, I hope this message finds you well and in a happy spirit. I am doing well, here on Earth, in the city of Vancouver, in Canada. Only your absence weighs heavily down on me. As I said, I am quite satisfied here, but I am beginning to get concerned about a certain situation that I hear about more and more, but do not know how to interpret.
There is apparently an infection that has emerged from a major country, called China, and all signs indicate that it will lead to a serious pandemic event. It has already seriously infected China, where it has started from, and now it is moving around in other countries, including here in Canada. I will not dwell much on its symptoms and the outcomes, for it is still very confusing and vague. I hear on the radio and television, some people calling it the Chinese disease, as if it is not expected to reach anywhere else.
I read in the news about the ravages it is doing in Italy, and in Iran, aside from the catastrophes in China. People, and even authorities of other countries, however, still claim that it will not affect their countries, thanks to the measures they are implementing.
My beloved angel, I don’t know if you studied the great infection that ravaged our planet decades ago, but when I see what is happening here, on Earth, I cannot help but to draw parallels.
As you know, infections do not recognize national boundaries, and as we saw on our planet, when the disease evolved into a global pandemic, we found out that only global solutions and coordination worked. Yet, if anything, this infection on Earth has shown that in spite of extensive global economic and international exchange links, when push comes to shove, nations resort back to “self”. Thus this event is handled as a couple of hundred more or less acute national crises. In addition, we see allied nations back-stabbing each other, and their leaders sometimes insulting each other.
I truly fear the worse for this planet, but maybe I am too biased by what I read in our history books. I am not sure if Earth has any memory of recent cataclysmic events, but this infection, if it evolves into a pandemic, will put to test humanity’s wisdom and will hopefully reinforce human to human links and nation to nation dialogues.
