We recently investigated a prototype device that has been causing quite a stir among neuroscience professionals, and the scientific community in general. It is still in its early stages of development, but Carnal Knowledge University’s (CKU) device named BEWITCH is touted as a game-changer in Central Nervous System challenges and also in human capability-enhancement research.
BEWITCH stands for Brain Enveloppe Wave Interference Tracking and Complementing Hammer. It is not a physical hammer, but a digital wave pulse machine which can ‘hammer in’ superimposing brain waves onto the brain-generated ones, and augment or modify them.
Before we delve deeper into this matter, we need to cover brain waves briefly. There are 5 types of brain waves-at least in humans-and thanks to the Greek alphabets they are easy to remember: Alpha (α), Beta (β), Theta (θ), Delta (δ), and finally Gamma (γ). Each wave has its specific frequency range, and its specific use/benefits in humans:
α-waves are useful for relaxation and calmness (freq. 8-12 Hz);
β-waves are useful for alertness and wakefulness (freq. 12-30 Hz);
θ-waves are useful for meditation, creativity and dreaming (freq. 4-8 Hz);
δ-waves are useful for deep sleep and unconsciousness (freq. 0.5-4 Hz); and finally
γ-waves are useful when we seek high levels of concentration, focus and problem-solving (freq. 25-100 Hz).
Even though this level of scientific knowledge is relatively recent, humans have been trying for millennia to alter their brain waves to gain additional mental strength or soul relaxation, sometimes bordering on transcendence.
Methods used historically to endow our brain with the desired wave have involved meditation, breathing exercises, and a variety of brain-training games. We thus understand what we try to do in the physiological world when we meditate and do breathing exercises. All these natural methods, however, require much efforts and time to reach the needed level, whereas once on the market, BEWITCH will put brain power just a zap away for any human.
CKU’s Physico-Neuronic Research Group that is developing the technology was very secretive about it and did not share how these machine-generated waves are absorbed by and assimilated into the brain-wave pathways, but we discovered that the pivot is done through a brain-machine transducer (BMT) for which they have not found a commercial name yet.
We are not certain if BEWITCH will ever be functional and marketed, and we are not even sure if it is a part of the science realm or our fictional science realm. We cannot even be sure if the principles of Pataphysics apply to it. We will, however, monitor this development, and will inform you in due time as we stumble on new information.
