OK, I have been holding this back for some time, but the other day, I decided that it is time to bring it up. You see, the West was very quick in confiscating the assets of Russian oligarchs, even those who had no real involvement in Russia’s attack. Yet, when the European Parliament voted to label Iran’s Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization, the countries, and the EU executive (Josep Borrell) did not bat an eye and claimed that EU and EU countries do not have the legal framework to do that, and that the Parliament voted emotionally on this resolution!!!! The way I see things, either the Russian asset grab is an illegal bullying theft, or the excuse for not calling the Iranian Revolutionary Guards terrorist is a lame situationist/opportunist matter.
What the Iranian people, especially the women, are doing is and will be remembered to be as significant as the uprisings that led to the independence of India, the abolition of Apartheid in South Africa, and the fall of the Berlin wall, yet there is little coverage in the Western media, except for a few cover stories in France, and one cover of Time Magazine.
Iranians are not asking for any intervention, nor any help from anybody (see what freeing Libya or Iraq by the West has led to), they will take care of the garbage themselves. But as humans with the pretension of democratic values and respect, and as followers of the 10 commandments, as believers in freedom, we cannot and we should not keep quiet on this matter.
So a little support could go a long way: ask your representative about their position on the events, and demand action from them, sign your emails with an additional line «woman-life-freedom», attend the rallies organized regularly all over the world, do not limit your attention to Iran solely to the nuclear issue, for history has recognized that the first declaration of human rights came from Iran, and it is time for these rights to return to the source.
